The blaze broke out at around 6.30pm this evening in St Mary’s Street, just yards from where a woman lost her life in a house fire a fortnight ago.
Tonight’s fire broke out in a mid-terrace house which is believed to have been converted into flats.
Several people left the building as the fire started but emergency services had to rescue another five, two of which were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Speaking to BBC Northern Ireland, NIFRS Group Commander Edward Carroll said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out city centre rescue.
He added, “Were it not for the prompt valiant action of the firefighters, there would have been a different outcome.”
