South Down SDLP MLA Seán Rogers has welcomed funding from the Department of Environment to tackle areas blighted by dereliction along the South Down coastline.

SDLP Environment Minister Mark H Durkan announced this week that Newry and Mourne District Council will receive £80,000 to improve individual derelict properties on arterial routes, or near town centres in a number of areas, including Kilkeel.
“The other areas included in the funding allocation are Rostrevor, Warrenpoint and Crossmaglen.
Rogers said the funding would provide a boost for Kilkeel. “Kilkeel is a popular fishing village and receives tourists throughout the year. This funding will, in the short term, provide a means to address some of the dilapidation that has occurred.
He added, “The village takes a battering from the harsh sea conditions, which we witnessed all too recently so, any funding that comes Kilkeel’s way is welcome.”
