Trust launches programme for adults with learning disabilities

The Southern Health and Social Care Trust has recently launched ‘FIT 4 U 2’, a new programme for adults with learning disabilities.
Fit 4 U 2 Armagh with LogoFit 4 U 2 builds on the success of the current ‘Fit 4 U’ Programme, which engages adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities.
In recent weeks people with learning disabilities have been participating in a range of physical activities and sports at Orchard Leisure Centre, Armagh. Following a successful 10 week pilot, Fit 4 U 2 has continued on Thursday’s. (2pm – 3.30pm)
Participants have engaged in a range of sports, including boccia, kurling, archery, badminton, target games, volleyball, indoor golf, table top games and soccer.
Rhonda Richardson, Southern Trust Fit 4 U Co-ordinator, explained, “Fit 4 U 2 aims to empower people with learning disabilities to improve their health and wellbeing through participation in a range of innovative day time physical activity and leisure opportunities.
“Activities are adapted and tailored to meet participant needs and seek to be inclusive and accessible,” she added.

May June 2016 updatedFit 4 U 2 is currently available in the Armagh area, and is planned to be available in Dungannon, Craigavon, Banbridge and Newry before the end of 2016.
Fit 4 U 2 is funded by the Public Health Agency and led by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust in partnership with other organisations, including the local Council authorities and Sport NI funded Everybody Active coaches.
