Ruane welcomes news of new footpath for Burren

Sinn Féin South Down MLA Caitríona Ruane has said she is delighted that work will begin in August on the creation of a footpath along Milltown Street.
ruanecaitSpeaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “I have been campaigning for the extension of a footpath along Milltown street for a number of years and I am delighted that Transport NI will begin this vital work in August.
“This is an important and long overdue investment in road safety for the Burren area. For far too long people parents with young children, school children and the elderly have been forced to walk on the roadway of this busy area during periods of heavy traffic.
“The new footpath will provide a safer environment for pedestrians and motorists alike especially as it will be completed before the winter months are upon us.
Ruane added, “This announcement will be welcomed by the Burren community and I commend all those who have campaigned for years on this issue.’’
