'Irish Language Act (Acht na Gaeilge) remains a priority' – Ó Muirí

Newry & Mourne Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muirí has said that securing legislation to protect the rights of Irish speakers remains a priority for Sinn Féin.

He was speaking after after representatives of Irish language groups POBAL and Turas travelled to Stormont to meet deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
The Sinn Féin representative said, “Representatives of POBAL and Turas went to Stormont recently to call for fair and equal treatment for Irish language speakers.
“They held a positive and constructive meeting with Martin McGuinness who assured both groups that securing Acht na Gaeilge remains a priority for Sinn Féin. Both groups outlined the positive work they are engaged in to promote the Irish language to a wider audience.”
He added, “Sinn Féin will continue to push for the implementation of all outstanding commitments of the Good Friday and other agreements, including the Irish Language Act.”
