Police in Newry recently donated items of clothing to a local charity shop following a successful conviction for fraud.

Speaking to Newry Times, Constable Niall Humphries, Newry Response, explained, “During 2012 we detected a husband and wife team who were buying items from a shop, switching labels on the clothing and then returning them to the shop and claiming back more money on them.
“When the pair were arrested we seized eight items of clothing. The Magistrate in this case gave approval for the items to be donated to charity and we were happy to be able to support the local Marie Curie shop here in Newry.
He added, “It is rewarding for us to see a worthy cause get some benefit from the work we do.”
