Significant boost for Roads Maintenance Budget in Newry & Mourne

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard MLA has announced that the 2016/2017 budget for roads maintenance in Newry, Mourne & Down District Council area will more than double from the 2015 allocation.
traffic-1Speaking to Newry Times, the Infrastructure Minister said, “I am delighted to announce that the budgets for 2016/2017 road maintenance works have been agreed and the opening allocation for structural maintenance is nearly £3.7million – more than double the £1.6million available in 2015.
“In my first few weeks as Infrastructure Minister I have pledged to tackle the infrastructural deficit west of the Bann and in rural areas across the North – including South Down.
“With a significant increase in resources available I hope that we can start to address many of the roads maintenance issues across the District.

May June 2016 updatedMinister Hazzard added, “In the months ahead I will continue to identify and prioritise structural maintenance schemes and look to secure additional funding from the Department of Finance to have them completed.”
