'People are sick and tired' – Brady on security alert

Newry Lord Mayor Charlie Casey and his Sinn Fein colleague MLA Mickey Brady have condemned those responsible for leaving a suspicious object on the Camlough Road.
Speaking to Newry Times, Casey said, “The PSNI have not yet confirmed whether or not this device was viable although I have just learned that a controlled explosion was carried out by bomb disposal officers at the scene.”

He added, “Newry & Mourne Council have vacated Newry Sports Centre in the event that families may still need to be evacuated from the Lower Carnagat area but I am hopeful that this will not be necessary.”
Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady condemned what he described as ‘pointless exercises’. He stated, “Once again we have seen Newry brought to a standstill while a suspicious device is investigated. Local people, like myself, are sick and tired or these pointless exercises. Once again I would call on those responsible to outline what this type of disruption actually achieves.”
